In the midst of summer a friend of mine, Mark, very kindly offered to model for me so that I could get some photography practice in. I’ve been desperate to get out with my camera more, to try new things. Alas, I rarely seem to get there. Mark’s offer of help gave me a nudge in the right direction. On a Sunday afternoon, with rain clouds looming, we made our way into a local forest. I was hoping for some glimpse of sunlight amongst the greenery. Luck was on our side and we found a few natural spotlights.
My main goal with this photo shoot was simply just to practice. Experiment with the light, learn more about model direction. Leading someone through what you’ve envisioned in your head is always going to be difficult. However, Mark was incredibly easy going. I’d shown him this mood board on Pinterest, which at the time contained the sort of imagery I was influenced by and hoping to produce from this particular session.
Here’s what we managed to capture that day. Despite the sunshine kindly showing up for us, it poured with rain the moment we climbed back into my car. Oh England, you and your predictable rain.
